Sparta police identify shooting victim
Sparta police identified the man involved in a shooting last week.
Police say Anthony Koopman, 61, was shot Thursday, June 11 around 1 a.m. at the intersection of Hill and Court streets in Sparta. Police said Koopman is a local resident.
When officers arrived on the scene they found an adult male shooting victim. Koopman was taken to a local hospital. He was later transferred to a La Crosse hospital where he died from the injuries. Police said the shooting was an isolated incident and that there is no danger to the immediate public. There is no word on a possible suspect. The Wisconsin Division of Criminal Investigation is assisting in the investigation.
The last gun homicide in Sparta was May 16, 2016. Turner Douglas Wood and Matthew James Robert Rasmussen were convicted of shooting Adam Garcia at a N. Water Street residence.
