   SPARTA - Elvera Walterman, 95, of Sparta, passed away, Friday, September 11, 2020, at Rolling Hills Rehabilitation Center, Sparta.

   She was born February 8, 1925, in the Town of Ridgeville, Norwalk, Wisconsin. She was the youngest of six children born to Ernest and Mathilda (Oldenburg) Vieth. Elvera attended school in Norwalk until the family moved to Sparta in 1936. She missed a year of school after contracting Saint Vitus' dance disease (related to Rheumatic fever.) Elvera finished high school in Sparta, graduating in 1944. She got a job, through school, at Farmers National Bank. After her mother passed away, Elvera kept house for her father. She married Gerald Walterman on August 13, 1955, at Zion Evangelical Church, Sparta; together they had three children. Elvera was a busy farm wife, helping where needed. She enjoyed singing and other church activities. Elvera was organist at Sparta Wesleyan Church and also at Sparta First Church of the Nazarene.

   Survivors include her son, Donald of Big Sky, Montana; her daughters, Sandra and Amy, both of Sparta; sister-in-law, Doris Vieth; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

   She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Gerald; and her siblings, Lillian Vieth, Emma (Paul) Zielke, Sarah (Robert “Bob”) Priebe, Robert Vieth, and Rev. Arthur (Lorraine) Vieth.

   Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, September 18, 2020, at Lanham-Schanhofer Funeral Home, Sparta. Pastor Jason Lictao will officiate. Burial will follow in Pilgrim's Home Cemetery, Norwalk. A visitation will be held from 12 noon until the time of service, Friday, at the funeral home.
