JOHN JOSEPH TRAINER
September 7, 1939—August 22, 2019
John Joseph Trainer, son of the late Gretta (Hahn) and Edwin Trainer, was born in Sparta, WI September 7, 1939. He and his two sisters, Kay Reilly of Poughkeepsie, New York and Alice Durkin of San Antonio, TX, were the children featured in the Monroe County Publishers weekly "Bottle Washer" column written by their mother during the early 1950s.
After graduating from Sparta High in 1957, he attended and graduated from Marquette University School of Engineering. He worked as a Civil Engineer for the Federal government in Philadelphia, PA with a three year interruption to serve his country in Alaska. When he returned to his job in Philadelphia, he became an active member of veteran organizations.
After retirement he moved to North Cape May, New Jersey where he made many friends who enjoyed his brilliant insights and great sense of humor. He enjoyed painting, writing poems and lyrics and composing cartoon strips. Some of his cartoons were published in his local paper.
He died peacefully in his sleep on August 22, 2019 at the age of 79. It was an unexpected death because he had plans for a cruise down the Columbia River later this month.
A Memorial Mass will be held Wednesday, September 11, 2019, 11:00 a.m. at St. John's Baptist Church in Wilton, WI. Father Gene Trainer, John's first cousin, will officiate the Mass. Burial will follow in the St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Lyndon Station, by John's parents.
