SPARTA - Nancy M. Rowan, 83, of Sparta, passed away Saturday, October 17, 2020, at Mayo Clinic Health System in La Crosse.
She was born March 4, 1937, in La Crosse, to Paul and Bertha (VonAllmen) Lieck. Nancy grew up in La Crosse and was a 1955 graduate of Central High School. On March 3, 1956, she married Howard Rowan in La Crosse. Together they lived on the home farm on Bush Prairie until moving to Sergeant Place. They then purchased Flume Farm where they farmed until 1999. In 2001 they moved to Cataract. Nancy liked going to auctions and flea markets, collecting salt and pepper shakers, and baking. She was a member of St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Sparta since 1957, where she enjoyed singing in the choir, Bible study and working with the Ladies Aid.
Survivors include her five children, Patti (Steve) Knoll of Sparta, Eric (Glenda) Rowan of Cashton, Sharon Adams of Sparta, David (Carrie) Rowan of Sparta, and Brian Rowan of Sparta; nine grandchildren, Russ Rowan, Erica Rowan, Samantha (Havier) Mendoza, Dacia Rowan, Danica Rowan, (special friend, Andy Jones), Justin Marx, Hailey Marx, Emma Rowan, and Hannah Rowan; two great-grandchildren, Santana and Camilla Mendoza; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Nancy was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one grandson, Jeremy Rowan; and two siblings, Sylvia (Eldon) Ostrem and Paul (Joan) Lieck.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, October 22, 2020, at St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church, Sparta. Reverend John Meyer will officiate. Burial will follow in St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Cemetery.
A visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, at Lanham-Schanhofer Funeral Home, and from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service Thursday, at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church, Sparta.
