RAPHAEL “RAY” LOUIS EIRSCHELE
June 22, 1927—September 2, 2019
TARR VALLEY - Raphael “Ray” Louis Eirschele, age 92, of Tarr Valley, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully Monday, September 2, 2019 at home with his wife at his side.
He was born June 22, 1927 to Edward and Mae (Schmidt) Eirschele in Tomah, Wisconsin. Ray married Ruth Tornberg from Beresford, South Dakota and they were married for 65 years.
Ray graduated from Tomah High School in 1945 and joined the Marines at age 17 during World War II. After his return, he became a lineman with Wisconsin Power & Light where he worked for 40 years. He had an excellent safety record.
An early hobby included raising trout. Ray & Ruth’s 560-acre farm included Hereford cattle, crops, chickens and hops. In 2001, a native prairie was started to benefit the Karner blue butterfly. It is still there today. Ray was a dedicated steward of the land and one of his greatest legacies was the tens of thousands of trees he planted.
He is survived by his loving wife, Ruth; children, Kathleen (James) Powers, Steven (Erin), Brian (Kerry) and Gregory (Donna); and by Jake the Dog. He is further survived by his grandchildren, Kate Powers, "Roy" Duncan, Eirschele, Kyle, Hunter, Logan, and Connor Eirschele.
He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Ali Powers.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, September 7, 2019, 10:30 a.m. at Queen of the Apostles Parish in Tomah. Monsignor Richard Gilles will officiate. Burial will follow in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Tomah, Wisconsin.
Family and friends are invited for visitation on Friday, September 6, 2019, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Torkelson Funeral Home in Tomah. Family and friends are also invited for visitation on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at the church.
