May 21, 1970—May 11, 2018

   SPARTA - Shane S. Zahrte, 47, of Sparta, WI, passed away Friday, May 11, 2018, at Mayo Clinic Health Center, Sparta, WI.

   Shane was born May 21, 1970, to Steven Alan and Jacelyn Etta (Hein) Zahrte, in Black River Falls, WI. He graduated from Waukegan High School in 1988.

   For four years, Shane bravely served with the United States Marine Corps. He was deployed to Iraq during Operation Desert Storm. In 2009, he joined the United States Army and proudly served a tour in Afghanistan, Operation Enduring Freedom. In total, he devoted more than nine years to his country.

   On October 18, 2008, Shane married his best friend, Kellie Jensen. They made their home in Sparta for the last four years. His smile lit up the room while his fun-loving demeanor filled their home. Shane was a hard worker and generous man. He worked at the Tomah VA Medical Center.

   He had a passion for hunting and fishing, and he loved Harley Davidson motorcycles. Anyone who knew Shane, knows that his heart belonged with his wife and children. They were his whole world and he loved spending time with them. When he became a grandpa, Shane was thrilled. His family will always remember his devotion to them and how he genuinely cared for and loved them with his whole heart.

   Shane is survived by his wife, Kellie of Sparta; his children, Shane Jr. (Brenna) Zahrte and their four children, of Baraboo, WI; Cheyenne Zahrte (Stephen Bruce) and their son and daughter of Richmond, VA; Adrian Williams and Liam Zahrte of Sparta; mom, Jacelyn (Gene Hart) Zahrte of Onalaska, WI; sister, Shannon (Kurt Outcelt) Preston of La Crosse, WI; along with many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, in-laws, and friends.

   Shane was preceded in death by his father, Steven Zahrte; and grandparents, William and Isabelle Zahrte.

   A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, May 17, 2018, 11:00 a.m., at Guardian Angel’s Catholic Parish Church, Black River, WI. Burial with full military honors will follow at the Brookside Cemetery, Millston, WI.

   Family and friends are invited for visitation Wednesday, May 16, 2018, 4:00-7:00 p.m., at the Torkelson Funeral Home, 2224 S. Superior Ave., Tomah, WI.

   Visitation will also be held on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church in Black River Falls.
