WATERFORD/SPARTA - Willard V. Pfuhl, age 88 years, recently of Waterford, WI and formerly of Sparta, WI, passed away on June 12, 2020 at his home.

Willard was born in Norwalk, WI on November 24, 1931 to Christian and Esther (Trachsel) Pfuhl. He graduated from Norwalk High School in 1950. Willard served his nation through the Army in Korea, serving in the Red Dragon Mortar Battalion from 1951 to 1953. Willard married Linda L. Terpstra on April 29, 1961 and they recently celebrated their 59th anniversary. Willard and Linda lived in Wilton, WI in the early years of marriage, and moved to Sparta, WI in 1963. They resided in various locations in Sparta until August of 2019 when they moved to Southeast WI to be closer to family.

Willard spent much of his adult life driving millions of miles hauling milk, cattle, lumber, gasoline, and fuel oil. He always told his family that he backed up more miles than any of them drove going forward. That was probably true. After retiring from driving truck in 1993, he spent many days volunteering with the Sparta Boys and Girls Clubs, volunteering at the Sparta United Methodist Church, picking up vehicles from the Milwaukee car auction for Wehrs Chevrolet in Bangor, or going to Iowa to pick up Featherlight horse or cattle trailers.

When not driving or volunteering, he was spending time with family.

Willard is survived by his wife of 59 years, Linda; a daughter, Lori (Kris Kirchner); a grandson, Gavin (Kelly) Kirchner and a granddaughter, Olivia (Keith) Ginn; as well as two precious great-grandsons, August and Otto.

Eleanor Stangler of Minnesota is a surviving sister.

Willard was preceded in death by both parents; and four siblings - Ralph, Kenneth, Floyd, and Myrtle (Guy Smith).

At this time, no specific plans for services are made due to the current pandemic restrictions.

Willard will be laid to rest at the Union Grove, WI, Veteran’s Administration Cemetery, with a Military Honors ceremony when services are again allowed.
