Charles “Chuck” R. Heyerdahl

   SPARTA - Charles “Chuck” R. Heyerdahl, 88 of Sparta, Wisconsin died on Saturday, February 24, 2024, at Our Town Assisted Living in Tomah, Wisconsin. He was born on May 27, 1935, in La Crosse, WI,  to Charles and Rose (Wick) Heyerdahl. After graduating Central High School in La Crosse, in 1954 he joined the Air Force. That eventually took him to Alaska where he discharged in 1958. He became a pilot, a big game guide, drove trucks and trailers up the haul road for what would become the North Slope Oil Fields of Alaska. He was an original and founding member of the Anchorage “Dirty Dozen” snowmobile racing team. He truly loved Alaska.

   He married Lois L. Krubsack on December 19, 1970. They remained in Alaska until leaving in 1972, relocating to La Crosse before moving to Sparta, Wisconsin in 1981. After moving to Sparta, he opened and operated North Star Ice until his retirement. Chuck was a lifetime member of the NRA, Ducks Unlimited and Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation.

   He is survived by his son Charles K. Heyerdahl of La Crosse, WI, daughter Theresa (Michael) Donovan of Kodiak, AK, grandchildren Nicole ( Skylar) DeGroot, Charles C.(Jen) Heyerdahl and their mother Cheryl Endres of Camp Douglas, WI., great grandchildren Celia and Marcella DeGroot, Charles H. and Holden Heyerdahl, nieces and nephews Butch (Shelly), Paul (Judy), Julie (Dave), Gary (Teresa), Heidi (Pat), John (Laurie), and Kevin (Kathy).

   The family would like to give a special thank you to the Siemiannowski Family of Sparta, Wayne, Linda, Ricky, Chad and Tanner for their love and care for many years. He loved you all dearly. Thank you to Our Town Assisted Living staff and residents for truly making him at home while residing there as well Tomah Health Hospice Touch and a thank you to Linsey Rezin of Tomah for your love and support.
