   WEST SALEM - John G. Funmaker, affectionately known as “Johnny Bingo”, age 71, of West Salem, Wisconsin, passed away on Thursday, November 23, 2023, at the Mayo Clinic Hospital in Rochester, MN. He was born on July 5, 1952, to Bert (Myrtle) Funmaker and Delphine Decorah-Pyawasay in Sparta, Wisconsin.

   Johnny’s career was as diverse as his interests. He was a dedicated bingo caller at both Ho-Chunk and Potawatomi casinos for the majority of his life and served as an EMT for Bell Ambulance Service for two years. His distinctive voice also led him to work in voiceovers, adding another unique facet to his professional life.  Johnny was a proud self-proclaimed “pool shark”.

   Johnny’s infectious laugh and engaging storytelling were the traits of his personality. He had a story for every occasion, and if you knew him, you couldn’t help but love him. His warmth and charisma were truly contagious.

   Johnny is survived by his children, John Heser, Dillon Funmaker, and Rebecca Funmaker, his three cherished grandchildren, and his sisters, Gail Funmaker, Raena Funmaker, Cindy Funmaker, and Mona Funmaker. He also leaves behind many loving nieces and nephews.

   He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Lance Funmaker, Steve Funmaker, and Michelle Funmaker.

   Johnny’s life was a testament to his kindness and his ability to bring joy to those around him. His memory will be cherished by all who knew him.

   Traditional Ho-Chunk Services will be held on Saturday, November 25, 2023, 12:00 p.m. at the Torkelson Funeral Home in Tomah.  Robert Mann will officiate. Burial will follow in the Decorah Cemetery in Black River Falls.  Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service on Saturday at the funeral home.  The Torkelson Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.  Online condolences may be offered at www.torkelsonfuneralhome.com.
