SPARTA - Loretta Fay Maulsby, age 63, of Sparta, passed away on December 29, 2023, at her home with loved ones by her side after a courageous battle with cancer. Loretta was born to Stanley and Darlene (Alder) Maulsby on Monday, June 20, 1960, in Detroit Lakes, MN.

Loretta is survived by her two daughters: Danika Kast and Stacia Kast of Sparta, and her “bonus daughter”: Mandy Wohlhoefer, also of Sparta, and three granddaughters: Tesia Lawrence, Aurora Lawrence, and Layah Kast, one grandson: Lucas Woodworth, and siblings: Dorene (Larry) Deno of Escanaba, MI, Joyce (Donny) Jones of Bozeman, MT, Douglas Maulsby of Oakdale, David (Carol) Maulsby of Rockland, Shirley (Dan) Herfel of McFarland, and Jeannie (Jon) Fletcher of Portage, and close friend: Ellen Wohlhoefer, plus numerous nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her special friend, Dave Wohlhoefer, her parents, Darlene & Stanley Maulsby of Tomah, and her oldest brother Larry Maulsby.

Loretta loved being outdoors soaking up the sunshine, gardening, especially growing unique plants, birdwatching, deer hunting, cooking and baking for friends and family using her secret recipes, designing crafts and woodworking projects, camping up North, vacations at the beach, watching NASCAR, cheering for the Minnesota Vikings, and spending time with friends and family.

Loretta grew up on her family’s farm, milking cows and helping with chores near Tomah, WI. She also helped with the family business, Maulsby Construction, and later in life built her own cabin with the skills she learned. Loretta was talented and had the ability to make anything both practical and beautiful. Besides raising her family, for a time she had her own craft and woodworking business, worked at Rolling Hills, and was a well-known cook at various establishments in the Sparta area. She enjoyed visiting with others and was a people person. Loretta will be missed by many.

Condolences may be sent to the family. No services are planned at this time. Loretta’s family wishes to thank the Gunderson Oncology and Hospice Departments of LaCrosse for their loving care and support.
