TOMAH-- Marlyn Donald Kemnitz, age 74, of Tomah, WI, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 7, 2024 at Tomah Health, after a courageous fight to the very end with cancer. He was born on July 1, 1949 to Donald and Kathleen (Dunn) Kemnitz.

Marlyn’s journey began as the cherished son of his parents in the Madison area, where he spent his formative years before graduating from Madison West High School. He furthered his education by earning a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from Madison School of Engineering (MSOE), which laid the foundation for a successful career.

Professionally, Marlyn was known for his sharp intellect and strong work ethic. He began his career at North Electric in Ohio and continued to make significant contributions to the telecommunications industry at Platteville Telephone Company. His expertise and leadership skills eventually led him to the role of Engineering Manager for CenturyLink, where he left an indelible mark through his dedication and innovative thinking.

Beyond his professional life, Marlyn was a devoted family man. He shared 45 years of love and companionship with his wife, Julie Kemnitz. Together, they raised their son, Don (Carrie) Kemnitz, and daughter, Tammy (Tim) Berry, Marlyn was a proud grandfather to Marley and Macy Kemnitz, and bonus granddaughters, Savannah and Dani. He also held a special place in his heart for his grandsons, Jordan (Savahna) Gibbard and Skyler (Trinity) Berry.

Marlyn was a beloved brother to Michael (Dawn) Kemnitz and Donna Johnson, and a respected brother-in-law to Lee (Kathy) Matthews. His family extended to numerous special nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends who will fondly remember his warmth and generosity.

An avid outdoorsman, Marlyn’s love for hunting and fishing knew no bounds. He found solace and joy in the tranquility of nature and was happiest when he was in the woods or by the water with a fishing rod in hand. His love for the great outdoors was a testament to his appreciation for life’s simple pleasures.

Family and friends are invited for a visitation on Saturday, May 11, 2024, from 10:30 until 1:00 p.m. at the Torkelson Funeral Home in Tomah. A private funeral service will follow the visitation. Marlyn’s burial will be held at a later date in the Arthur Cemetery near Platteville, WI. Marlyn would want to encourage everyone to dress comfortably and to come in casual attire. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to n.a.s.a. of Tomah (North American Squirrel Association). The family would like to thank the staff at Tomah Health for the wonderful care they provided to Marlyn in his final days.
