WARRENS - Michael S. Ebersold, age 80, of Warrens, Wisconsin, passed away on Monday, December 25, 2023, at the Tomah VA Medical Center surrounded by family. He was born August 6th, 1943, to Ralph and Gertrude (Stellpflug) Ebersold in Trempealeau, Wisconsin. Following high school, Mike proudly served his country as a U.S. Navy Seabee, for 9 years. He then went on to become the chief of Police in Trempealeau and continued his career of law enforcement, as a Security Police Officer at Volk Field, where he retired. Mike was a devoted Mason for almost 50 years.

Mike raised two daughters, Amy & Sarah which he adored more than anything. Mike was blessed with 4 grandchildren, Justin, Madelyn, Cael & Anabel and oh my goodness his heart would swell & he would beam with pride when he spoke about any of them. From gymnastics to swimming to wrestling, hunting or baseball he was their biggest fan & usually the one with the most raffle tickets, because if there was a raffle he was in it!

Mike loved Halloween and would be seen weeks prior at Walmart buying tons of candy to spoil the Warrens kids with. There were many that made a few trips to Mikes on Halloween night. Mike also had a home in the heart of Warrens that was the gathering place for many people, especially during Cranfest.

Mike was an avid bird watcher & loved teaching his daughters and grandchildren how to identify birds. It was a race every Spring between him & his grandkids who would see the first hummingbird, indigo bunting, oriole or rose breasted grosbeak.  Mike has many memories of birding adventures with friends and has met others along the way when he would travel to see specific birds on his list.

Mike had a special place in his heart for his grandchildren and on the day he retired he was committed to enjoying as many moments as he could with them. Trips to Eagle school, Necedah wildlife refuge, or going to subway to have a picnic lunch at a park. He was an avid birder and loved to share his knowledge about nature with his daughters and his grandchildren. He had friends far and wide that he would meet along the way of his birding adventures.

He is survived by his daughters, Amy (Kurt) Pollack of Warrens, Sarah Peacock of Tomah, and Terry Ebersold of Florida; grandchildren; Justin (Jeanne), Maddy, Cael, Anabel, Christopher, and Kayla; 2 great grandchildren Sawyer & Berkley; brothers, Dale (Ginny) Ebersold of Indianapolis, IN and James (Steph) Ebersold of Trempealeau; sisters, Mary Killian of Arizona, Irene Borneman of Trempealeau, Pat Stoner of Galesville; brother-in-law Richard Vondrasek, sister-in-law Lu Ebersold of Trempealeau; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his brother, John Ebersold; sisters, Jean Ebersold, Carol Brush, and Janet Vondrasek; and brothers-in-law, Duane Stoner, and Glenn Borneman.

“We would like to extend our gratitude to the Tomah VA Medical Center Hospice staff. Thank you for what you do. We will always remember the comfort that you gave him while in your care.”
