Brookwood football ready to host Week 9 matchup with Onalaska Luther

The Brookwood Falcons have faced their share of difficulties during this 2021 fall football season. They’ll get another crack at a conference win on the field against an unfamiliar Scenic Bluffs foe.

Brookwood (3-5 overall, 1-4 Scenic Bluffs) is all set to host the Onalaska Luther Knights (4-4, 3-2) in a Week 9 matchup Friday, October 15 at 7 p.m. in Ontario.

Luther is a newcomer to the Scenic Bluffs as a football-only member this fall. The Knights were technically supposed to join in 2020 as part of an enacted statewide football-only conference realignment plan, but they wound up playing fall football in 2020 while the rest of the Scenic Bluffs played during the spring alternate season brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic.

They’ve had an up-and-down fall in conference play but have undoubtedly left their mark on the Scenic Bluffs.

The Knights went on the road and outlasted New Lisbon 28-20 in their conference opener, fell to Cashton 35-18 at home, defeated Royall 22-6 at home and then scored the biggest shocker in Scenic Bluffs play in years when they went into Bangor and upset the Cardinals 20-13 to snap their 45-game conference winning streak.

However, Necedah traveled to Onalaska last Friday and vanquished the Knights 34-20.

Senior quarterback Dillon Yang is the centerpiece to the Luther offense around which everything revolves. Yang has completed 59 percent of his passes for 733 yards, 7 touchdowns and 6 interceptions while accumulating 719 yards and 7 touchdowns on the ground in 120 carries.

With a win over Brookwood Friday night, the Knights would firmly secure their place in the 2021 playoff field. It would mark their second consecutive postseason berth and third overall in program history, with the other one coming back in 2007.
