Brookwood volleyball snaps 28-game Scenic Bluffs losing streak with win over Necedah

Posted

For the first time in two years, the Brookwood volleyball team was able to celebrate a win over a Scenic Bluffs opponent.

The Falcons overcame a loss in the first set to defeat the Necedah Cardinals in four 16-25, 25-20, 25-23, 25-21 in a conference matchup Monday, October 4 at Brookwood High School in Ontario.

The victory marked Brookwood’s first in league play since October 1, 2019, when the Falcons went on the road and knocked off Wonewoc-Center in a five-set affair. Since that time, Brookwood had endured 28 consecutive losses on its Scenic Bluffs ledger.

That all finally changed Monday night against Necedah thanks to a resilient effort following a slow start in the first set.

Cora Brandau led the way for the Falcons with 10 kills and three blocks. Vanessa Anderson fired in eight kills to go along with five digs, Danica Lee finished with six kills and three blocks, Kylie Powell dished out 11 assists and Kristin Berg added six digs.

Emily Cunitz put forth a stellar all-around effort as well, notching eight assists and five digs. She also served 100 percent on 25 attempts, recording seven total aces along the way to help power the victory.

Brookwood is back in action with a couple of road matches in the coming days. The Falcons first play in New Lisbon Thursday, October 7 at 7:15 p.m. and then at Hillsboro Saturday, October 9 at 9:30 a.m.
