Free Weekly Kids Event in Sparta and Tomah

Magical Mondays and Wonderful Wednesdays by The Parenting Place

Posted

The Parenting Place is bringing more free, fun activities to Sparta’s children and their caregivers. Magical
Mondays have begun at Memorial Park and will continue through August 1st, 2022. The rest of the year will feature free activities Mondays and Fridays at their new location, as well day care certification, free parenting classes, and a free diaper bank.

Magical Mondays were inspired by Tomah Parenting Place’s popular Winnebago and Wonderful Wednesdays. Megan Mulvaney, Family Interaction Program Supervisor/Parent Educator says, “We’ve always had such a great turn out in Tomah, so we wanted to bring something like that to Sparta. At 2022’s first Magical Monday on July 11th, Memorial Park was full of laughter and play for Magical Monday’s Active Day. “Magical Mondays are free outdoor events for anyone to bring children to. We are all about free play: outdoor, natural, easy ways to play. We do have some planned activities for children to enjoy.” July 18th will be Nature Day with story time by the Sparta Library’s new children’s librarian Cheyenne, arts and crafts, and more. July 25th is Transportation Day, and August 1st will be Science Day, with Larry the Science Guy making a special appearance. All Magical Mondays events are free and open to children and their caregivers from 9:30-11:30 at Memorial Park, on Mondays from July 11th- August 1st. Wonderful Wednesdays in Tomah’s Winnebago Park begin on Wednesday, July 27th.

Visit the Parenting Place Mondays and Fridays from 9am-10:30 am for a free play group on Mondays resuming August 8th, and the free and ongoing Parent Connection on Fridays, where parents can talk about parenting topics while their children play under the free supervision of The Parenting Place’s child care staff.  The Parenting Place was at the Pre-K Building on Franklin Street for many years. The new location is within Sparta School District’s new Administration Building, in the renovated old Maplewood School, at 900 E Montgomery St.

Additional services include daycare certification for aspiring daycare providers in Sparta, Tomah, LaCrosse and the surrounding area. The Parenting Place’s parenting classes are offered in a group or one on one format and are free to the public. The diaper bank is a no-questions-asked diaper donation program where those in need can stop by once a week to get the diapers they need. The Parenting Place also accepts diaper donations: “We get a lot of donations from parents whose children are going up in size, so they are left with some diapers that are too small. We are happy to accept them,” said Mulvaney.

The Parenting Place has been servicing the community as a non-profit organization for 15 years. The free programs offered by The Parenting Place are made  possible by grants, contracts, and donations. The Parenting Place would like to thank the sponsors of Magical Mondays: Lanham-Schanhofer Funeral and Cremation, Park Bank, and Walmart of Sparta. If you or your business would like to sponsor this event you can email Kassie at kassiemiller@theparentingplace.net.
