SPARTA - Lisa Lynn Newman passed away on September 6, 2020, after a 17-year battle with breast cancer. Lisa - or Mona, as she was known to friends – was born December 6, 1964. Lisa grew up in Iowa before moving to Virginia in her late 20’s and then coming to settle in Sparta, Wisconsin in her early 30’s. She got a job at the military base Fort McCoy Club and that’s where she worked the last 29 years before having to medically retire in 2014, due to the metastasized breast cancer. Lisa had such an inviting and friendly personality that she made many lifelong friends while working at Fort McCoy.

In her later years Lisa enjoyed spending time with friends and family, but she especially enjoyed playing and sitting outside with her grandson, Ryder. Lisa also had an array of beautiful flowers and tasty vegetables in her makeshift garden, which she had every year. If you were to ever walk into Lisa’s house, you would instantly be greeted by the sights of Elvis Presley and African décor. Anyone who knew her knew how much she loved Elvis and had practically every movie and/or CD ever produced. As of late she really enjoyed the Rocket Man and Bohemian Rhapsody movies which she would have on repeat every night.

Lisa is survived by her son, Dakota (Amanda) Newman; daughter, Sierra (Emily) Newman; grandson, Ryder Kessen-Newman; siblings, Ed (Shirley) Newman, Laura (Dave) Gale, Shawn (Karri) Newman, Todd (Amy) Newman Scott (Shannon) Kammerman, Beth (Chris) Stambach, John (Mari) Newman, Mark (Jessica) Newman; step mom, Shirley Sater; uncle, Loran (Gail) Rutledge; cousins, Mickey (Randy) Wood, Kim (Henry) Newman; along with many nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by her parents, James Newman and Evonne Engelken; maternal grandparents, Edward and Juanita Rutledge; paternal grandparents, James Newman, Margaret Mary and Wilbur Braack; uncle, Edward Newman; and cousin, Stephanie Newman.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you donate to the Sparta Area Cancer Support (SACS) as they had helped Lisa in the past.
