Tomah - Mary J. Marten, 88 of Tomah died on Tuesday, April 4, 2023.  She was born on March 6, 1935 to William and Rose (Stepanek) Roh in Muscoda, WI.  She attended Tomah High School and was a majorette in the band. She met the love of her life and on August 16, 1952, Mary was united in marriage to Verlyn “Bert” H. Marten in Tomah. He preceded her in death on May 22, 1992.  Together, Mary and Bert established Marten’s Floor Covering, Inc. in 1965. She worked there for almost all of 55 years.  Mary was hardworking and always wanted to help others.  She was a faithful member of the Queen of Apostle’s Catholic Church at St. Mary’s.  She enjoyed time with friends playing cards and was a member of a card club.  Mary loved to cook and was famous for her potato salad and her Thanksgiving Ham.  She would make breakfast for her boys whenever they were available and talk about the day’s plan.  She was a proud grandma, and her grandchildren could count on Grandma for being early picking them up and to their events. She would always make their favorite meal when they visited her.  She was a devoted wife and a loving mother, grandma, great-grandma, and sister.

   She is survived by her children Sheryl Killen of Georgetown, TX, Curtis Marten and Todd (Patricia) Marten both of Tomah, grandchildren, Adam (Erica) Marten of McFarland, WI, Alex (Courtney) Marten of Sparta, and Amanda (special friend, Erik) Marten of Sun Prairie, 2 great-grandchildren, Charlotte and Isabela.  She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

   She was preceded in death by her husband, Bert, 2 sons, David and Michael, and a son-in-law, Larry Killen, her siblings, Bill (Marcella) Roh, John Roh, and Rosemary (Gene) Chitwood, brother-in-law, Kenneth Marten and a sister-in-law, Lois Christiano.

   A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, April 10, 2023, 10:30 AM at Queen of Apostles Parish at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 303 W. Monroe Street, Tomah. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery.  Relatives and friends are invited for a time of visitation on Sunday from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM at the Sonnenburg Family Funeral Home, 801 E.
