Sparta football welcomes in River Falls to conclude regular season

Posted

The Sparta football team has not seen much success since the three-game winning streak they had earlier this season. The team will be going into their last game of the year with the hopes of ending their four-game losing streak, the first four-game losing streak for the Spartans since the 2018 season.

Sparta will face off against MVC leader River Falls with hopes of ending their season with a win and a huge upset.

River Falls has been terrorizing the Mississippi Valley Conference since joining for the 2021 season. River Falls is undefeated in the MVC and their only losses this season are against non-conference foes.

Going into the last game of the season, sophomore quarterback Thomas Laufenberg is the team leader in passing yards with 881 yards and the top two receivers on the team are Chris Jacobs and Layden Ott with 243 and 240 yards, respectively. Senior running back Nick Kent leads the team with 617 rushing yards.

Sparta will have to find a way to slow down the balanced River Falls offense. The Wildcats this season have 1,313 passing yards and 20 passing touchdowns and 1,512 rushing yards with 15 rushing touchdowns.

The Spartan football team may be on a losing skid, but want to end their season with a win over the best. The game will be held at Memorial Field for one last round of Friday night lights with the team for the 2021 season.
