SPARTA-Steven W. Schroeder was born on August 16, 1948 in Viroqua, Wisconsin to Wilfred and Louise (Gronemus) Schroeder. He grew up on the family farm on St. Mary’s Ridge.
Steve graduated from Cashton High School in 1966. After graduation he enlisted in the United States Air Force and served four years as an Electrical Power Production Specialist in missiles. When he exited the USAF in 1970, he started work for Mercury Marine in West Bend, WI. In 1977 he was transferred to MerCruiser in Stillwater, OK. He retired from there after 25 years of service. In 2001 he was united in marriage to Darla Bickell. They moved to Sparta, WI in 2017.
Steve enjoyed hunting, fishing, going to the farm cabin and spending time with his family.
Steve passed away December 14, 2020 at Gunderson Hospital in La Crosse, WI at the age of 72 years, 3 months, and 28 days. He is preceded in death by his parents and a brother, William.
He is survived by his wife, Darla; children, Jeffrey Schroeder of Mesa, AZ, Daniel (Nikki) Schroeder of Springfield, MN, and William Schroeder of South Bend, IN; step children, Cortney Harrison, Kylie (Martin) Herron, and Brian (Daniqua) Bickell; 13 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; siblings, James (Janice) Schroeder of Cashton, Michael (Sue) Schroeder of Tomah, and Mary Jo (Randy) Pfaff of Sparta; many nieces and nephews.
