Tomah baseball bests Holmen in extras after late rally

Posted

The Timberwolves were able to secure a close victory against Holmen on Monday, April 11 behind a five-run rally in the seventh inning that set up a pivotal eighth inning. A single run in the eighth was the difference as Tomah earned its first MVC victory of the year 7-6.

In the bottom of the seventh inning, Drew Brookman was able to triple on a fly ball, which brought Charlie Joyce and Bryant Thornton in for a score. Shane Prielipp then followed that with a single on a ground ball to bring Andrew Brookman. Tom Hesse doubled on a fly ball to the outfield that allowed Tanner Matthias and Ethan Burch to score and tie the game at 6 runs apiece.

After holding Holmen in the top of the eighth inning, Josh Georgeson became the hero of the day by belting out a line drive that lined up with the sun and was unplayable, leading to the walk-off win.

Prielipp finished the game with three hits on the night and one RBI. Brookman finished with two hits, three runs, and two RBIs. Cody Quist finished the night with two hits.

Brookman pitched six innings and allowed six hits and five runs and recorded 10 strikeouts. Hesse pitched for two innings and recorded two strikeouts.

Tomah improves to 2-2 on the season and 1-1 in league play after suffering a loss to Aquinas in the MVC opener last week.

The Timberwolves’ game with La Crosse Central that was scheduled for Thursday, April 14 was moved to May 24 on account of inclement weather. Tomah is expected to host La Crosse Logan on Monday, April 18 with a 4:30 p.m. start time. Logan recently topped West Salem 10-2 on Tuesday, April 12 to improve to 2-2 on the season.
