BASEBALL: Brookwood quiet at the plate in season-opening loss to Blair-Taylor

Posted

The Brookwood bats were kept largely quiet in a loss to Blair-Taylor to start the 2024 season.

The Wildcats (1-0) seized an early lead and rode that to a comfortable 7-0 win over the Falcons (0-1) in a non-conference clash on Thursday, March 28 in Wilton.

Blair-Taylor wasted no time getting on the board in its Maundy Thursday matchup with Brookwood, plating three runs in the top of the first and adding another in the second inning. The Wildcats tacked on three final runs in the top of the fifth to round out the scoring for the evening.

The Falcons managed to get runners on first and second in the bottom of the first and runners at the corners in the fifth inning, but they were unable to hit paydirt on any of their limited opportunities with runners in scoring position.

At the plate for Brookwood, junior right fielder Caston Gosda doubled, sophomore catcher Jackson Cunitz and senior first baseman Tim DeWitt each singled and sophomore left fielder/pitcher Owen Wang drew a pair of walks.

On the mound for the Falcons, junior Braeden Pasch gave up four runs (only one earned) on four hits and three walks while striking out seven in three innings, and Wang surrendered four unearned runs on four hits and two walks to go along with four strikeouts in three innings. Brookwood committed three errors that helped lead to six unearned runs.

Blair-Taylor senior shortstop/second baseman Jackson Shramek finished 2 for 4 with a double, a run and an RBI and junior left fielder Austin Thompson went 2 for 4 with a run scored.
