WILTON - Charles “Chuck” James Luxton Sr., 74 of Wilton went home to be with his Lord and Savior on February 13, 2024. He passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loved ones. Chuck was born in Richland Center, WI on December 21, 1949 to Garold and Viola (Walsh) Luxton.
Chuck grew up in Cazenovia, WI with his three sisters, Patricia Visgar, Shirley (Tracy) Jennings, and Vickie Luxton. He attended grade school at St. Anthonys and later graduated from Weston High School, where his good looks and charm won him the love of his life, Maureen. They spent years exchanging love letters, sneaking out and rolling the car down the hill, and spreading manure. This led to the beautiful life that they would share for fifty-five plus years.
Chuck and Maureen were married June 15, 1968. They led an adventurous life and started young with their family. They had two children, Chuck Jr. and Theresa. As a family they enjoyed traveling cross-country on yearly trips to places like California and many National Parks. Chuck would load his family up in the car and hit the road for camping adventures across the country. He enjoyed his family time swimming, hiking, and seeing all of the sights along the way. Chuck loved to work hard and play hard! As his kids grew up, he would watch them in their many activities and playing sports. Together, Chuck and Maureen were active in their children’s lives and always made family a priority, a true labor of love.
All of this continued with their eleven grandchildren. Yes, how blessed from two children to have eleven grandchildren. Chuck loved to tease the grandchildren from little to big, from tickles and raspberries to boyfriends and girlfriends, he was never short of a good laugh. Chuck never passed up an opportunity to watch the grandchildren play a sport, hit a milestone in their faith journey, or any extra curricular activity. As they established these traditions with their grandchildren, it was known to all that Grandma and Grandpa’s house was a place for everyone. Great grandchildren again brought so much joy to Chuck and Maureen. In the most recent years Chuck spent his time with his loving wife, caring for each of his great grandchildren. These little ones were such a large part of life. Grandpa let the great grandchildren lead the way to the sand box, swings, slide, pool, Kabota and anything else to keep moving. Nap time was a favorite for grandpa as well as the kids, even if they did not know it then.
Chuck was an inspiration to each of his family members. He had faith that could move mountains, love that was beyond measure, and held his family second only to our Lord. Chuck’s faith was very apparent to many. This made him family to all and grandpa to many. He made a connection and touched the lives of so many people. Chuck always had a smile and open arms to every person, he never met a stranger.
Chuck was always a hard worker. He started out on his family farm and worked at the foundry through high school. He spent thirty seven years as a devoted head of Maintenance at the Brookwood School District. Chuck loved his time at school and he connected with so many young people through his years of work. He took pride in the school and the work he did. Chuck had the ability to fix just about anything in the building and out. He also built lasting relationships with the staff and students during his time there. It is not out of the ordinary to hear people still comment on how things were when Chuck was around. The school was not just work for Chuck, it was his passion.
Chuck is survived by his wife Maureen (O’Brien) Luxton; sister Shirley (Tracy) Jennings; daughter Theresa (Terry) Rogalla; daughter-in-law Debbie (Ryan) Luxton-Green;grandchildren Toni (Tim) Ross, Shane (Jessica) Luxton, Briehn (Jesse) Johnson, Dominic (special friend Lina) Luxton, Gabrielle (Jesse) Nevsimal, Bridget (Cory) Ottum, Mckenzi, Nolan, Keira, Alonna, and Trenten Rogalla, Hannah (Nathan) Korish, Cassidy, Jacob, and Colten Green; great grandchildren Grace, Clara Mae, and Jonas Johnson, Emerson, Ensley, Everett, and Eagan Luxton, Audrey, Aileen, Ellis, and Melanie Ottum, Tigue, Torren, Tiernan, and Titus Ross, and Caden Korish. Many special family and friends that he met along the way.
Chuck was preceded in death by his son Charles Luxton Jr., his parents Garold and Viola (Walsh) Luxton, his sisters Vickie Luxton and Patricia Visgar, mother and father-in-law Martin and Thelma (Ott) O’Brien, brother-in-laws John Kutz and Alan Kutz, and nephews Derrick Jennings and Erin O’Brien.
A Mass of Christian burial will take place Monday, February 19, 11:00 am at the St. John the Baptist Catholic Church on Summit Ridge. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Fr. Eric Berns will officiate. Following Chuck’s wishes, there will be no visitation.
