TOMAH - Dixilee Amy Johnson, lovingly known as Dixie, passed away peacefully in her home on December 26, 2023. Dixie was born on January 17, 1953, in Tomah, Wisconsin. She was the cherished daughter of Betty and Jerry Meacham. Dixie grew up in Tomah, Wisconsin and graduated in 1971.

On November 9, 1975, Dixie joined in matrimony with the love of her life, Frederick Johnson. Their union was blessed with two beautiful daughters, Tanya and Stephanie. Dixie and Fred raised their family in Tomah Wisconsin.

Dixie dedicated many years of her life as a nursing assistant, caring for those in need. She was known for her compassionate nature and genuine concern for others wherever she worked. She had a strong work ethic and enjoyed what she did. In addition to her job outside the home, Dixie was a devoted homemaker, and loved to cook delicious meals throughout her life.

In 1995, Dixie and Fred decided to embark on a new adventure, moving to Louisiana and later Colorado, and then back to Louisiana. Dixie found great joy and contentment in the small town of Louisiana, where she found solace and happiness in her church, friends, and school districts where her and Fred worked as custodians.

Throughout their marriage, Dixie and Fred enjoyed flipping houses, embracing the challenge of transforming houses into beautiful homes. Their shared passion for this led them to move many times, and packing and moving became second nature to them both. It’s what they loved to do.

Dixie loved to unwind by watching TV. Her favorite channels were the ID channel and paranormal shows, which was always a conversation piece for her and Fred to joke about. Dixie also had a weakness for a good buffet and loved the taste of delicious fried chicken.

Dixie was known for her quick wit, free-spirited nature, temper at times when she felt something wasn’t right and her strong preference for a peaceful and private life. She cherished her moments of tranquility and valued her own space.

Dixie is preceded in death by her parents, Jerry and Betty Meacham as well as her mother and father-in-law and many extended family members.

Dixie is survived by her beloved husband, Fred Johnson, who stood by her side for 48 years. She will forever be remembered and cherished by her devoted daughters and their husbands, Tanya and Tim Marten, and Stephanie and Josh Armstrong. Dixie’s memory will also be carried on by her four grandchildren, Sterling Marten, Jayden (Kaylin) Marten, Emilee (Blake) Barber, and Ben Armstrong-Alsareheed and three great-grandchildren, Walker Marten, Lucille Marten, and Adlee Barber.

Dixie also leaves behind her siblings, Kathy (Ron) Nicks and Jerry (Barb) Meacham, along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends. She also had a special fur-baby named Bella, who brought her comfort and companionship.

In accordance with Dixie’s wishes, the family will hold a private memorial at a later date. Let us remember Dixie for her kindness, strength, and the joy she brought to those who knew her. May her soul rest in eternal peace.
