   SPARTA - Evelyn A. Herrman, 95, of Sparta, died Wednesday, February 14, 2024 at Morrow Memorial Home, Sparta. She was born on June 13, 1928, to Theodore and Doris (Prescott) Schlaver in Sparta, WI.

   Evelyn grew up on a dairy and livestock farm learning at an early age to love and care for animals, vegetables, and fruits. She enjoyed exhibiting cattle at fairs, a love she passed on to her children. She attended Hill Grove School, a one room school where her mother had taught at, and where she first met her future husband. After graduating high school, she worked as a bookkeeper at Production Credit Association, followed by her sister, Anita, when she left to start raising her family.

   Evelyn and Robert were married on February 1,1947, and enjoyed forty-eight years of farming, family, friends, and fairs together before his passing on October 23, 1995.  They farmed together all their life instilling a strong work ethic in their children. They enjoyed family and neighborhood gatherings, especially when it involved playing cards and sharing meals. Later in life they enjoyed traveling throughout the U.S. and Europe with close friends.

   Evelyn was active in her community, a trait passed to her by her parents and in-laws, and that she passed on to her children. Evelyn was a member of the St. John’s Ladies Aide, Bible study, 4-H leader, Big Creek Homemakers, and many other activities.

   Evelyn is survived by her daughter, Barbara Johnson, Sparta; Clifford (Teresa), Sparta; and Allan (Lynn), Green Bay; grandchildren, Theresa (Chris), Kristina (Russ), Nicole (Justin), Tracie, Dustin (Kerri), Michelle (Kyle), Katrina (Josh), and Allan (Caitlin); great-grandchildren, Owen, Brock, Mason, Kevin, Eric, Abigail, Zachary, Bradley, Dawson, Grayson, Kaitlynn, Olivia, and Everly; siblings, Anita (Elwin – deceased) Stienke, Kenneth (Vonnie) Schlaver, and Gerald (Virginia) Schlaver; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

   In addition to Robert and her parents, she was predeceased by her siblings, Ruth (Lloyd Evenson), Vern Johnson, Donald (Delores) Schlaver, Charolette (Gaylord) Koopman, Eileen (Charles) Arndt; father- and mother-in-law, Harry and Nina Herrman; sister-in-law, Nina (Lawrence) Rhodenhizer; and brother-in-law, Frederick (Helen) Herrman; many other relatives and dear friends so important to her.

   Evelyn and her family would like to express deep appreciation for the wonderful care she received the past few years while residing at the Morrow Memorial Home in Sparta. In particular, Maria for her special care.

   A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, February 21, 2024 at St. John’s Ev Lutheran Church, Sparta, with Reverend Jon Hackbarth officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Sparta.

   Family and friends are invited for visitation from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Tuesday at Lanham-Schanhofer Funeral Home and Cremation, Sparta, and from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. on Wednesday at the church.
