Heavy snow causes outages, frustration, and beauty

Posted

This morning, Monroe County residents woke up to quite a beautiful sight, as mother nature blanketed the region in a pure-white snow, creating a scene for children to play in and imaginations to run wild with. But there was a price to pay for the dreamy wonderland: power outages, toppled trees and roads that were a bit difficult to traverse, for commuters, on their way into work.

The National Weather Service reported that around 6 inches of snow had accumulated throughout Monroe County, through the late evening and morning hours. The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, Emergency Management, local fire and police departments and power companies are working to get power restored and downed trees cleaned up, for all residents in Monroe County.

In Cataract, drifting snow, as high as three feet, was reported to the Herald, as well as power outages. The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office encourages everyone to be patient and drive carefully until everything is cleared up.
