AVALANCHE - Kevin T. Sorenson, age 71, of rural Avalanche, WI, spliced his last wire and was called home on Friday, December 1, 2023.

Kevin entered the world on June 2, 1952, as unconventionally as he lived his life- he was born in the backseat of his uncle’s brand-new car, on the way to the hospital. Kevin was the son of Theodore and Eunice (Leum) Sorenson.

Kevin had a passion for his trade and was a master in the field of telephone wire splicing. He spent 50+ years doing what he loved. He began work at Viroqua Telephone before even graduating from Westby High School. He later worked for Century Telephone out of La crosse and eventually started his own business Sorenson Telcom Splicing. His trade work led him all over the country. A project he often spoke of, was the extensive repairs in the Virgin Islands after hurricane Hugo. During his time there, he met Jimmy Buffett at a local watering hole. He went on to do work for him personally on his private island.

Kevin married Brenda Hoffman in 1975. They had two daughters. In 2018, Kevin married his best friend, Debra. Together they enjoyed traveling, visiting family all the while having fun. Hunting with family and friends was always something that he loved to do. Once he was able to devote time to some of his hobbies, Kevin enjoyed doing taxidermy work. He entered many of his master pieces into competitions and received several awards.

Kevin is survived by his wife Debra; two daughters, Kassandra “Kassi”(Pete) Opsahl of Onalaska, WI, and Kelly Sloan of Onalaska, WI; Debra’s children, Lea (Chris) McAvoy of San Diego, CA, and Jane Newton of Viroqua; grandchildren, Kalli Aspenson, Kaden and Kolten Opsahl; Debra’s grandchildren, Aliza, Taren, Zyra, Kyroe McAvoy and Elizabeth Stilwell; Kevin’s siblings, Keith (Linda) Sorenson, Kent Sorenson, Kay Mueller, estranged brother Kenrick Sorenson; sister-in-law, Carol Sorenson; along with his special friends who were family to him, best friends Tim and Deb Hundt, their family and the entire Hundt clan, special nephew Steve Glunz; along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Stories and adventures of Kevin are abundant and mischievous and perhaps legendary as well. If you ever see a manhole cover propped open, think about Kevin, and smile.

Family and friends are invited for a gathering to celebrate Kevin’s storied life on Saturday, December 9, 2023, from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. at the Torkelson Funeral Home in Cashton, WI. Burial in Our Saviors Lutheran Cemetery, Westby, WI, will be held at a later date.

The Torkelson Funeral Home of Cashton, WI, is assisting the family with arrangements. Online condolences may be offered at www.torkelsonfuneralhome.com.
