CASHTON - La Mont H. Haas, 99, of Cashton, WI, passed away Tuesday, March 12, 2024, at Mulder Health Care Facility in West Salem, WI. He was born to Joseph and Anna (Brueggeman) Haas, August 24, 1924, in the Township of Jefferson, WI.

La Mont was united in marriage to Marie Ann Geier, May 2, 1950, at St. Mary’s Ridge Catholic Church.  Together he and Marie proudly ran his family’s farm that was established by his parents in 1910.  They continued farming for 58 years.  In 1987 he retired from milking cows and continued with cash crops on the farm until 2013, when he was 89 years old. La Mont appreciated all of the opportunities and challenges that farming had to offer so it was tough for him to retire from what he loved doing.

La Mont worked as the Town of Jefferson assessor from 1965-1997. He knew the township extremely well and enjoyed being able to go out and visit with his neighbors while he worked.  Even though his life was busy he always looked forward to the time spent with his children and grandchildren.  Playing a few hands of rummy and sharing his favorite snack of Kit Kat candy bars would always make his day complete.

La Mont is survived by children, Thomas Haas of Sparta, WI, Judy (Eugene) Brueggen of West Salem, WI, and Jacqueline Haas of Nashville, TN; grandchildren, Erin (Mike) Klinkner of Cashton, WI, Danielle (Tim) Weibel of Holmen, WI, Michael (Missy) Haas of West Salem, WI, Joseph (Jenny) Haas of West Salem, WI, Kaitlin (Ryan) Mockus of Wauwatosa, WI, Alexis Brueggen of Onalaska, WI; great grandchildren, Ethan, Madelyn, Emery, Marshall and Evelyn Klinkner, Avery, and Harper Haas, and Ellie and Henry Haas, and Cohen Weibel; son-in-law, Harold Oaks of Cashton; sisters-in-law, Florentine Geier, and Annette (Alvis) Strazdins, Cashton, WI; along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife Marie in 2008; parents, Joseph and Anna; daughter, Marjorie Oaks; siblings, Gertrude Hemmersbach, Larry Haas, Regina Ebert, Joseph Haas, Martha Chicanick, Hildegard Schreier, Aurelia Rogahn, Lawrence Haas, Dorothy Gohres, Anne Fishburne, Lucille Simons,  and Bernadine “Bernie” Weishar.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, March 18, 2024, 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Cashton, WI.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  Family and friends are invited for visitation Sunday, March 17, 2024, 1:00-3:00 p.m. at the Torkelson Funeral Home in Cashton, WI.
