SPARTA - LaVonne C. Shawley, 81, of Sparta, died Monday, February 27, 2023 at her home. She was born on June 30, 1941 to Ora and Bertha (Huntington) Abbott in Cataract. She attended Cataract Grade School for 8 years, and then graduated from Sparta High School in June of 1959.
LaVonne was united in marriage to John Shawley on August 28, 1959. After their marriage, they made their home in Milwaukee, where LaVonne attended Milwaukee Area Technical College, studying for her LPN License, and graduated in June of 1979. She started her employment at Mount Carmel Nursing Home and worked there for 28 years, retiring in June of 2007. She and her husband moved back to the Sparta area after they retired.
LaVonne is survived by her daughter, Lori Kay (Mike) Schenk; 2 grandchildren, Michelle (Mike) Glock and Laura Haugen; 3 great-grandchildren, Alex Haugen, Myah Glock, and Sarena Glock; brother, Warren (Caren) Abbott; sister Anna Mae Pollack; 2 special nieces, Sheila Abbott and Julia Day; special nephew, Gene Cone and many other nieces, nephews, family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ora and Bertha Abbott; husband, John; son, Jeffery Shawley; 6 brothers, Ben, Byron, Bernard, Bill, Spencer, and Basil; 5 sisters, Inez, Henrietta, June, Calverea and Sharon; and 3 dogs, whom she loved and cared for, Tasha, Keesha, and Dusty.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 3, 2023 at Lanham-Schanhofer Funeral Home and Cremation, Sparta, with Reverend Roberta Nowicki officiating. Burial will be at Cataract Cemetery.
