Though Tomah held their own early against Baldwin-Woodville, the reigning Division 4 state semifinalists eventually imposed their will and pulled away.
The Blackhawks (1-0) rolled to a 48-19 non-conference win over the Timberwolves (0-1) in the latter’s first game under new head coach Collin Eswein last Friday in Tomah.
Baldwin-Woodville didn’t score until the late stages of the first quarter but began to pour on the points in the second to turn things into a rout, taking advantage of some Tomah punting miscues along the way.
The Blackhawks were boosted by a stellar performance from senior quarterback Joe Jensen, who completed 15 of 19 passes for 171 yards and four touchdowns while also adding a team-high 70 yards and another touchdown on the ground.
Though the Timberwolves struggled to get much going in their run game, senior quarterback Quinn Gerke did throw for 235 yards and three touchdowns with fellow senior Silas Cram on the receiving end of all three TDs and 156 yards.
Tomah gets another tough non-conference challenge when they travel to West Salem (1-0) on Friday at 7 p.m.
Cashton 27, WS/S 0
Dealing with a significant amount of roster turnover from last year’s team, the Cashton Eagles (1-0) didn’t face many issues in their season opener, cruising to a 27-0 shutout win over Wauzeka-Steuben/Seneca (0-1) on Friday in Wauzeka.
The Eagles found the end zone for the first time midway through the opening quarter, as junior quarterback Graham Hemmersbach plowed ahead on a keeper for a one-yard touchdown.
Senior Jack Christensen, coming off a first-team All-Scenic Bluffs selection a year ago, was responsible for all the game’s remaining touchdowns. He scored from five yards out in the final minute of the first quarter, had a three-yard TD run midway through the second and tacked on a final two-yard touchdown scamper in the opening seconds of the fourth quarter.
All told, Christensen tallied 64 yards and a hat trick of touchdowns on 16 carries. Hemmersbach went 4 for 9 with 57 yards, with senior Traeton Gill reeling in two receptions for 32 yards.
Defensively for Cashton, juniors Cutler Brueggen and Landon Laufenberg compiled 10 and nine solo tackles, respectively.
The Eagles host their home opener this coming Friday when they welcome in Independence/Gilmanton (0-1) at 7 p.m.
C-FC 35, Brookwood 0
Coming off a Division 7 runner-up finish in 2025, Cochrane-Fountain City has their eyes set on the ultimate prize this fall. Their quest for another trip to Camp Randall Stadium began with a dominant road win over Brookwood.
The Pirates (1-0) rolled to a 35-0 romp over the Falcons (0-1) in their non-conference tilt this past Friday at Adam Luing Field in Ontario.
Senior running back Aidan Lisowski led the charge for C-FC with 144 yards and four touchdowns on 15 carries. Senior quarterback Parker Kujak completed 10 of 11 passes for 136 yards, including a 42-yard TD strike to junior Maverick Arneson.
Brookwood looks to bounce back with another home game in Week 2, where they’ll host the Viroqua Blackhawks (0-1) from the Coulee Conference on Friday at 7 p.m.
