What was a just six point lead after just a single quarter of play turned into a 30-point drubbing by halftime.

Fourth-seeded Reedsburg made quick work of eighth-seeded Whitefish Bay in a Division 3 state semifinal on Friday, Nov. 14, 43-20.

The Beavers (10-3, 4-3), which led by just six points after the first quarter, gouged the Blue Dukes ( for 24 more in the second quarter to take a 30-0 halftime lead.

Whitefish Bay won the second half of the game by outscoring their opponent 20- 13, but couldn’t do enough to make the Level 4 playoff game at Madison LaFollette a compelling watch.

Whitefish Bay’s Chase Wolter finished with 245 passing yards, three scores and one interception.

However, Reedsburg’s Will Mikonowicz owned the night with a five touchdown performance and 277 total rushing yards.

The senior running back also rushed for four TDs in a Level 3 win over Pewaukee, three against Madison Edgewood in a L2 game and seven in the playoff opener against Waterford.

With Friday’s win, Reedsburg becomes the first team at the WIAA state final to represent the Mississippi Valley Conference since Aquinas won Division 5 back in 2007 and just the second MVC team in a state final since the inception of the league in the fall of 1989.

The Beavers will face Grafton (13-0, 7-0) in a Division 3 state final on Friday, Nov. 21 at Camp Randall Stadium in Madison. Grafton bested Catholic Memorial 34- 31 in overtime Friday.

Reedsburg previously advanced to state in 2008 and 2009, placing second and first, respectively.
