ONTARIO - LeRoy Roger Wallace, “Bub,” 81, of Ontario, WI, passed away surrounded by his loving wife and family, at his home Friday, December 15, 2023.  Bub was born August 14, 1942, to Bert and Lola (Clark) Wallace.  July 27, 1963, he married Judy Shughart at the little Salem Methodist Church, outside of Norwalk, WI.

Bub began working in the logging industry when horses were used for transporting the downed trees. Cutting down trees, skidding, and loading them on trucks was hard work but rewarding to Bub; eventually he introduced his sons to the business.  Because hard came natural to Bub, he also raised tobacco. It became a family business with he and his sons until there came a time for them to move on to their own jobs.  When they couldn’t help him anymore, Bub retired from the tobacco business.

Bub and Judy took many trips to northern Wisconsin and in 1987; they purchased a house on Barker Lake in Winter, WI.  They loved traveling there to go fishing.  The neighbors and Bub enjoyed many neighborhood fish fry’s from the fish they caught. Besides fishing he enjoyed deer hunting and harvesting morel mushrooms and ginseng.

Bub was proud to say he had his own personal right-hand-man.  His grandson Phillip was always there to help with chores, and would drop everything to go fishing with him.  Bub was also so happy to have his grandson Dustin close by as his personal mechanic.  Dustin kept grandpa’s truck tuned up so he could go out for drives.

Bub really appreciated the simpler things in life, seeing the Schwan’s ice cream truck stop by the house, playing cards, dirty clubs and poker; but the Sunday dinners with Judy and their family were his favorite.

Bub is survived by his wife of 60 years, Judy; sons, Allen (Wendy), Wayne (Emily) and Randy (Corinne) all of Ontario, WI; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; a sister Mary Wallace; brothers, Larry (Pearla), Paul (Rosa), Val (Jackie), and David (Marsha); brothers-in-law, Bob (Luanne) Wruck, and Ken Kaus; sisters-in-law, Cindy Wallace, and Donna Wallace (Lester); along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Bub was preceded in death by his parents; brothers and sisters, Jim and Don Wallace, Donna Kaus and Anita Wruck.

Per Bub’s wishes, no funeral services are being planned at this time. They ask that memorials be given in his name to St. Croix Hospice or to a charity of choice.  The Torkelson Funeral Home of Ontario, WI, is assisting the family with arrangements.  Online condolences may be offered at www.torkelsonfuneralhome.com.
