Joyce D. Oium

   SPARTA - Joyce D. Oium, 81, of rural Sparta, WI, passed away peacefully at the Serenity House in Tomah, WI with her loving family by her side.

   Joyce was born on January 8, 1943, to Carl and Juno (Falk) Johnson in Rush City, MN.  After high school she began working at 3M in Minneapolis when she was introduced to a handsome man who worked in the flight tower at the airport. Fast forward to January 16, 1965, Joyce and Calvin Oium were married.

   She and Calvin traveled between Minnesota, Iowa, and Wisconsin, for work opportunities before making their permanent home outside of Sparta, WI.   When they lived in Sparta, she worked at Rolling Hills Nursing home for four years in the dietary department and later was a personnel clerk at Ft. McCoy until her retirement in June of 2004.

   Joyce loved to fly and enjoyed traveling throughout the United States with her husband and family.  She would also love to go fishing. As a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, she volunteered as a religion teacher and worked with the ladies auxiliary.  Joyce cherished spending time with her children, grandchildren, family and friends and she will be missed by many.

   Joyce is survived by her husband of 59 years, Calvin; children, Kim (Keith) Schuttemeier of Stoughton, WI; and Kevin (Tonya) Oium of Menomonie, WI; sisters, Linnea (Lindy) Jensen of Balsam Lake, WI, Virginia Aasmundrud of Deer Park, WI, Cindy (Randy) Weyhrauch, of Chisago City, MN; grandchildren, Brittany (Austin) Triggs, Paige Schuttemeier and Garrett and Ethan Oium; brother-in-law, David Wilmer of Cannon Falls, MN; along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

   Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Juno; two brothers, Roger and Edward Johnson; sister, Diane Wilmer; Calvin’s parents, Lawrence and Elizabeth Oium; brothers-in-law, William Jensen, Lowell Aasmundrud, and Jimmy Oium.

   A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 3, 2024, 2:00 p.m. at the Torkelson Funeral Home, 1132 Angelo Rd. Sparta, WI.  Family and friends are invited for visitation Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.
